Business Analysis

Overview

Enterprise Business Analysis helps university stakeholders submit new technology requests or enhancements by clarifying needs, defining desired outcomes, and assessing feasibility and alignment with institutional goals. Any Mason employee may submit a request through the Portfolio Intake process, where Business Analysts collaborate with functional teams to review, evaluate, and make recommendations.

Please note: Submitting an intake form does not guarantee approval; it ensures a fair and transparent review using consistent criteria across all submissions.

How It Works

Business Analysis & Request Intake

  • Request

    Submit Your Request

Requestor obtains sponsorship and gathers all supporting business case materials; completes a TeamDynamix Technical Business Solution Intake form.

  • Intake

    Initial Review

The portfolio manager discusses with business liaisons and/or request's point of contact for the Technical Business Solution Intake form and determines the next steps for the review.

  • Assess

    Detailed Review

Business Analysts arrange and oversee detailed review—evaluate risk, University resources, feasibility, and impact—and route to the appropriate evaluation process.

  • Authorize

    Approval, Prioritization, and Scheduling

The final review of new proposals to approve, potentially activate, assign resources, and prioritize requests will be discussed within leadership roles at George Mason.

  • Project Acceptance

    Management & Delivery

Upon approval of a request that should become a project in the Enterprise Business Portfolio, the request will proceed to the Enterprise Project Management Team process for initiation, planning, delivery, and closeout.
